Artist / Musician / Queens kid

About

Emily Cronin is a multidisciplinary artist from Queens, New York. Her music is inspired by her native city, her South Asian background, and her love of punk and the avant-garde. Her eclectic DJ sets range from quirky new wave and groovy disco to house and techno, with a sprinkle of punk and Bollywood. Her experimental soundscapes balance the ethereal and holy with the industrial and violent. She was exposed to the world of DJing and music production thanks to the Brooklyn-based non-profit Building Beats. If you need a DJ for your next event, or would like to collab, get in touch

WORK

I would describe my style as experimental electronic. Some of my influences include New Order, The Art Of Noise, and Life Without Buildings.
I enjoy incorporating aspects of my visual arts practice into my music, maintaining a DIY aesthetic even through the modern tool of digital music production. Some of my music is inspired by art movements, including Dada and conceptual art.
Most of my visual artwork is representational, yet distorted in some way, whether it be through color, line, or shape. If you would like to see my art portfolio, check out my website.

MARIG0LD Sample pack

My sample pack is titled “MARIG0LD”. Most of the tracks in this pack were influenced by new wave and dream pop music, hence the synth heavy sounds.
On “faux”, I took inspiration from New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle”. I played around with Soundtrap’s vocal loops on “ghost”. My recording of conversations on “voices of beachgoers” was inspired by Simon and Garfunkel’s “Voices of Old People”. “Sounds of the great backyard” is a collection of sounds found in my backyard, including crickets chirping, birds singing, leaves rustling, and the whooshing of passing cars and overhead airplanes. On “pitter patter”, I create a drum beat with two remote controllers on top of a coffee table. I incorporated sounds of dripping water on “pool water”.
Give my sample pack a listen! I hope you enjoy it.
